Namibians are bracing themselves for a third fuel increase this year. In a statement released by the Ministry of Mines and energy the price of diesel will increase by eighty cents. This will result in breaking through of the pscycological barier of N$10(aboutUS$1.50)for the first time ever. The price of petrol will increase with 50cents per litre.
The news has come to a shock to many Namibian who are allready sufferring under a weak economy in a developing African country. The increases will have a direct influence on the prices of commodities, which are expected to sharply rise.
But, that is not the only problem facing cosumers and owners of petrol stations. Currently, certian gas stations’pumps are not set to calculate the double figure of 10 dollars since especially the older pumps go up to 9.99. temporary measures have however been implemented so that a sticker of X10 would be attached to the pumps so as to enable the consumer to calculate the correct prices.
